My visit to the exhibit “Hawaii’s Alfred Shaheen: Fabric to Fashion”

A splendid collection of the work of Alfred Shaheen is on display now through May 3 (and from May 4 until June 30 by appointment) at Washington State University’s Museum of Anthropology.

The exhibit, on national tour, is a must-see for anyone interested in vintage clothing, with covetable prints and garment construction on display. The wide range of Shaheen’s work, from the late 40s through the 70s can be seen, and there is a very interesting booklet that accompanies the exhibit. I was surprised by how much I learned, and am filled with an even greater interest in the work of “The Master Printer.”
