A Bit of Vintage at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival

A bit of glamorous vintage fashion was spotted at the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival. A nice representation of everything from a darling 1960's Lanvin dress for a press conference to vintage Christian Dior for the opening ceremony.

From bold and daring, to classic and timeless, and a bit of fluffy; even celebrities can appreciate the quality of vintage and glamor in going green!

*Fresh Vintage* April 15 - 27, 2011

I'm doing a double edition of Fresh Vintage tonight, and have some fabulous things to show off, so let's get started!

First up, Denisebrain  recently offered a beautiful jacket by famed designer Irene (aka Irene Lentz).

JoulesVintage added these sweet blue cherry embroidered gloves to her Etsy shop and quickly sold them!

This gorgeous 1950s black lace and pink tulle strapless dress was also listed last week by Vintage Devotion and quickly sold.

This amazing 1950s/1960s Balenciaga haute couture hat is new at Rue de la Paix

This 50s lace cocktail dress is new at The Spectrum on eBay

And Alleycats, aka After Dark Vintage, just listed this Schiaparelli pillbox hat in her Artfire studio.

That's it for this week's Fresh Vintage. As you can see, sometimes vintage goodies go quickly, so consider dropping by the VFG forums to get 'em while they're hot!

Fashion Book Shopping is Grand

We got to take a little trip this month up to the Indianapolis Museum of Art. And as ever, the visit was a treat. While our visit fell between fashion and textile exhibits,we has a picnic on the grounds, and found a selection of great little fashion books in the museum gift shop, a great cup of coffee, wonderful art, the fabulous grounds of the Lily house and a too brief tour of the Lily home. Plus a fine dinner out in the Fountain Square are. It was a treat.

Fashion books are like hen's teeth in our area. So we hit the museum shop and these are the too few books I brought back:

A short but thorough bio of Balenciaga and his house with loads of photos. Easy to read, straightforward and affordable.

And a selection of the small books from the Assouline series on Poiret, Gres and the Little Black Dress. Fun, quick reads, not a lot of text, and heavy on the photos.

What did I leave? Coffee table size books on Balenciaga and Dior, more of this small series, another series on decades of costume history, modern Japanese fashion, and several more. I will just have to take more money next time.
